Is it really possible that the little 8 lb. 15 oz. boy I swear I just gave birth to yesterday is already TWO YEARS OLD? It just can't be so. No way! How did this happen? How is it that my baby boy is not a baby anymore? He is a full-fledged running, talking, jumping, B O Y! He doesn't even "toddle" anymore! Life just goes by so fast! Next post I'm sure he'll be graduating from college, finding a wife, and making me a grandmother. Ugh.
Well, for little man's birthday we decided to have a party with all of our closest friends and some family at our new house. Since Caleb loves Mickey Mouse, we did a Mickey theme complete with Mickey decorations, red and yellow seeded watermelon (to match the color scheme, of course), and even Mickey shaped PB&J sandwiches for the kiddos! Aliceson's parents, known as Mimi and PawPaw to Caleb, made some delicious chopped brisket for sandwiches and Kyle's parents, aka Nana and Papa, made yummy dips and chips to go along with them! Aliceson baked and decorated chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and Uncle Jerry and Uncle Larry brought some mini ice cream cones straight from the Blue Bell factory freezers! For the kids, some friends let us borrow a bounce house and a ball pit and we set up Caleb's new sand table outside. It was blistering hot and in the middle of a drought but nobody seemed to mind. It was fabulous! Caleb was so excited to have all of his friends over and even Great-Grandma and Grandpa Frank made the trek from Brenham. It is a day we will always remember.
On Monday we took Caleb to see a new pediatrician for his 2 year "well-check". Turns out, he's well!! ha! He is now 32 lb. 12 oz.. As has always been, he is still a big boy! Caleb is still a big eater and right now loves all fruit, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, popsicles, animal crackers, soup, tomatoes, and pretty much anything we put in front of him. He is meeting all developmental milestones and is growing like crazy. He now has so many words we can't keep up! This child is always talking up a storm and we often ask him to please be quiet, just for a second. haha! He mostly is talking in full sentences and seems to pick up everything he hears and remembers things a long time later. His favorite thing to say is "hi" to everybody! In the store, in restaurants, at church . . . everyone that passes gets a "hi" and a wave from Caleb. Not sure where he got this social side from but he certainly has it. At a restaurant one night, as he's saying "hi" to everyone that walked past our table, an elderly lady stopped to say hi and asked him if he was running for office! HA! Maybe some day . . . :) He also is getting much better at saying "thank you", "please", and "excuse me" without being prompted.
Caleb is still a very busy fellow. He loves to run (especially away from Mommy in public places), jump (almost always gets both feet off the ground at once now), climb stairs, kick, throw, pedal his tricycle, and is trying to do somersaults. If only his legs were a tad bit longer, he could push his body over better! His favorite thing right now is playing with his trucks. He especially loves fire trucks or, as he calls them, "wee-ohh, wee-ohh trucks" (think of the sound a fire truck makes). Every time we're at the library he always asks for truck books or airplane books and still loves to look up in the sky for airplanes as they fly over. On certain days the flight pattern for the big planes going to Bush Airport, not far from our house, sends the planes right over us every minute or two! He loves spending these days outside so he can see all the airplanes!! He's not big into singing just yet and often yells at Mommy and Daddy to "STOP" mid-song. He will, only if he's in the right mood, sing along to "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider", "ABCs", or "Farmer Caleb Had a Farm (Old Macdonald)". He does sit to listen to stories sometimes but again, has to be in the right mood or he screams to get down and go play. :)
I could go on and on about him and how special he is. We just love him so much and are thankful to be chosen to be his parents. What a loving, caring, sweet, kind-hearted, funny, independent character you are, Caleb. Mommy and Daddy love you so much!! Happy 2nd birthday, sweet pea!
