5 years!!

Believe it or not, it has been FIVE years since Caleb Warren came into the world!!  8 lb. 15.5 oz. of quiet cuteness to 46 lbs of wild boy!!  Our handsome oldest son is such a joy!  He is crazy, silly, all-boy, independent, curious, kind-hearted, smart, wonderful, inventive and so much more.  We are so thankful we have the opportunity to parent him!

These days Caleb loves everything Phineas and Ferb (even the CD which has been restricted to only playing once a day so Mommy doesn't go crazy), Batman, Legos, Star Wars, and race cars.  He loves having friends over to play and going to friends' houses as well.  He is so excited to finally be part of the "Five Team" and getting ready for Kindergarten in a few weeks.  Caleb loves to learn.  His reading has really taken off big time in the past few months.  He can read almost any children's book you put in front of him, road signs while we're driving, menus at restaurants, etc.  He reads books to himself, Samuel, or one of us several times a day.  His favorites to read independently are the Piggie and Elephant book series, Poppleton series, Buzz Boy and Fly Guy series, Berenstain Bears, Pigeon books, Trucktown series, and pretty much anything we can find at the library that is on his level.  He is very interested in our public library's summer reading program this summer and has read almost 100 books already!  He loves for Mommy to read one of the Magic Tree House books to him and Daddy to read the Bible before bed.  He is very confident at sounding out words but does get easily frustrated when he finds one that stumps him!  He also loves to write (not nearly as much as reading) and has fairly good penmanship for someone that just turned 5!  Caleb can count by 2's, 5's and 10's to 100 and 3's to about 30.  He can complete simple math problems and likes a challenge like when Mommy challenges him to count by 4's or to figure out what the numbers 1-10 times 2 are.  I am so eager to see him blossom this year in school.  We will miss him a ton while he's gone, but are confident that even though he'll be one of the younger students in his class, he's ready!

Caleb is still quite the independent guy, just as he has been since he was born.  He is eager to go to new places, try new things, isn't typically shy in new surroundings and doesn't look back for Mommy or Daddy when he's walking away in a public place.  He will talk to anyone, makes new friends easily, and loves traveling to Brenham to stay with grandparents (for a week at a time) by himself.  Even with his independent nature, he still loves to snuggle, be hugged, spend one-on-one time with us, and watch over Samuel.  99% of the time he is a GREAT big brother.  He is very thoughtful with Samuel.  He doesn't easily get angry when Sammy messes up his things or possessive over his toys.  He eagerly shares toys and food with him to make him happy.  It is so sweet to see them interact and start to really play together!

Caleb is still a very adventurous eater.  He loves to try new foods and will tell you that he likes "everything except jalapeno peppers with the seeds inside".  He also dislikes corn on the cob (gets stuck in his teeth) and asparagus.  Other than those things though, he will eat anything.  His favorites are cherries, fish tacos (yes, with blackened mahi mahi, cabbage, adobo greek yogurt sauce on top), any fruit, sweets, broccoli, lettuce (which he BEGS for), Chick-fil-A, Dairy Queen, the "Peanut Restaurant" (Texas Roadhouse), pancakes, regular tacos, pizza (even supreme), Mommy's Jalapeno Popper baked Chicken Breasts, Mommy's Avocado Southwestern Salad . ..  I could go on and on.  He likes it all! He has been the EASIEST kid to feed ever!

Caleb, we love you so much!  You bring so much joy, spunk, and happiness to our lives.  We are so thankful to be your parents and can't wait to see what God has in store for you in the future.  You are our favorite Caleb!!

Working on designing his own race car out of a cardboard box, paper, and glue.  He made his helmet himself (first gluing it to his hair then deciding the rubber band would work better)!

His dessert of choice at Chick-fil-A for his birthday dinner.  The sweet cashiers there even gave him an extra cherry!
